A first treatment of the archive reveals the problems inherent in its scale. Simply performing a command to list all the files in the archive, recursively unpacking the folders inside folders, is significant. The operation, which one would normally perform without thinking of the amount of time it takes to run, in this case takes over 5 minutes. An uncompressed snapshot of the list of filenames is itself larger than 20 megabytes (the size of a typical audio or video file), meaning that just manipulating this untreated and usually “light” representation of the files already has a certain “weight”.
